2026 | Procedural Assistant for the House of Representatives
Debate in our House of Representatives is highly constrained by procedure, and more experienced or legal-minded Members have a natural advantage in this context. All Members should be empowered to have the same leverage to understand and influence the course of proceedings during House Business.
Our simple web application Open Order rapidly parses natural language queries relating to the Standing Orders and Speakers’ Rulings that shape debate. Members now have equal access to the century of procedural precedent that informs their experience, and can use this tool to be more effective and confident dealing with matters arising in real time.
This simple app serves as a clear signal of our intention to build tools as an intervention layer, complementing but not bound by existing systems. It is also our proof of concept for a tool that can ingest governance material, build retrieval and analysis functions around it, and package this functionality into a public application with a natural language interface.
