The Civic Stack
Engaging, trustworthy, and sustainable democracy requires modern digital infrastructure: open source public tools, cryptographic protocols, smart databases, and natural language interfaces.
This infrastructure does not have to be built by government to be built for the public. By putting it in citizens' hands first, we can:
-
Dramatically enhance the experience of every citizen's interactions with agencies and services,
-
Bring our systems of governance into a genuinely shared space of understanding and ownership,
-
Evolve the role of the Member of Parliament beyond performative constitutional minimalism, and
-
Empower Ministers with new models of advice and information flow.
Legitimacy is a lagging indicator, and the best ideas are not conceived in committees, they are adopted after they've already proven inevitable. We are building a rapid experimental pathway towards a digital civic future that is independent of formal political adoption. ▍
